The 9th Asian Youth Dream Speech Contest Held in Manila, Philippines
On Wednesday, October 16, the 9th Asian Youth Dream Speech Contest was held at the Makati Palace Hotel in Manila, Philippines, targeting overseas youth residing in Asia. The event was hosted by the My Dream International Foundation (Chairman Son Chang-Hyun) and organized by the Association of Korean Language Schools in Asia (Chairman Lee Bong-Woo). A total of 20 students from 14 Korean language schools in 10 Southeast Asian countries competed in preliminary rounds, and 12 finalists from 12 schools in 8 countries participated in the final contest.
In his congratulatory speech, Son Chang-Hyun, Chairman of the My Dream International Foundation, said, “We are currently promoting the ‘Youth Dream Speech Festival’ across five continents to uncover the gem-like dreams of young people around the world. By identifying the next generation with potential, we support their dreams for the future through global scholarship programs and the MINK Next-Generation Network. I hope this youth dream speech festival will be a platform that beautifully adorns the Asian sky with dreams.”
Lee Bong-Woo, Chairman of the Association of Korean Language Schools in Asia, encouraged the participants, saying, “Although these students attend different schools, they are all our precious children. Today’s event is not a competition but a festival where we listen to, support, and encourage the unique dreams of these 12 students.”
Elementary, middle, and high school students participating in the event beautifully expressed their diverse aspirations, such as becoming diplomats, flight attendants, veterinarians, painters, and AI experts, in their own unique ways. Each year, participants of the contest display growing maturity, presenting their future visions with sincerity and passion, based on their experiences of living abroad amidst diverse cultures and environments. Teachers and families in attendance were deeply moved and found the event meaningful, fostering high expectations for the students' futures.
As a result of the contest, the first prize was awarded to Yun Hye-Rin, a high school sophomore from Bali Seum Korean School, for her speech titled "A Diplomat to Light Up the World." Second place went to Lee Ji-Yoon, a sixth-grader from Korea Shema School, and third place to Eun Ji-Soo, a middle school first-grader from the Philippine Korean School.
